Gentoo Penguin Chicks Arrive At Kelly Tarlton’s
Auckland Intermediate School Engulfed in Flames
When: posted 8th of December 2020
Where: Ponsonby Intermediate School, Auckland
Why: It's not known yet...they will have to investigate
What: Twenty-four fire crews were sent to battle a fire at Ponsonby Intermediate School. Police were also at the scene, and an ambulance and a rapid response unit were sent as a precaution. However, no one was treated at the fire. Emergency services were first called at 4.28pm to the fire. No one was evacuated and it's not believed anyone was trapped inside the building. A Video from the scene sent to 1 NEWS showed roaring flames rising into the sky as the school building is swallowed up by the fire. Loud popping noises were heard coming from the building. The fire also sent thick smoke across Auckland city. A fire investigator went to the school and no other classrooms were at risk from the fire. The school is around 500 metres away from the St Stephen's Presbyterian Church, which caught fire during the weekend. Police said they're treating that fire as suspicious.
My wondering: I wonder what caused it to catch fire. Was it deliberately set on fire by someone? Is the church fire and this school linked?
My opinion: imagine being inside the class room when it happened, you would have to know what to do straight away so you could get out safely. That's why we have have fire drills at school.
Who: Me, Mum, Dad, Callum, Jordan, Aunty Marlies and Aunty Inge and Opa and Oma
What: On Friday 29th of May we left Nelson and drove 5 hours to Castle Hill Village. On the way we stopped at Reefton Skate Park and Lake Brunner. When we stopped at Lake Brunner there were kids at the school and it was cold. We also saw a cool train with a lot of cool in it. It had 30 carriages. When we arrived at the our Accomodation House we looked around and it was bigger than I expected. There was a loft with a bunk room and 3 other bedrooms on the ground floor.
The next day, Saturday it was Oma's 65th Birthday! In the morning we went to the Castle Hill Rocks and walked around the Rocks/boulders. There was one you could go on the top of and a guy walked on the edge but didn't fall off. There were 2 rocks that probably would have fallen off in an earthquake. After lunch back at the house, we went for another bush walk to a water source before we got ready to go to Oxford for Oma's Birthday Tea, which was Indian. There we met Aunty Marlies who came from Dunedin. It was super yummy.
On Sunday we walked up Castle Hill and saw the place we were staying at and the Castle Hill Rocks below. We walked up 200m. In the afternoon Aunty Marlies and I stayed at the House and played games while the others went for a walk. That night we watched Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle.
On Monday we left and stopped at Castle Hill Caves, to look in them and then in Arthur's Pass to go for a walk to see a 130 m waterfall. Here we said goodbye to Aunty Marlies who went the other way to go home to Dunedin. We made it to Reefton at 4 pm and went to the skate park again and had tea at Dawson's Hotel.
Fun Fact: The rocks and boulders at castle hill are made of limestone.
My Opinion: I loved it and i didn't know it was that popular. I recommend Castle Hill for a place to visit.
